NationTalk speaks to Dr Cindy Blackstock. Dr Blackstock is a Canadian-born Gitxsan activist for child welfare and Executive Director of the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada. She is also an associate professor for the Faculty of Extension at the University of Alberta. 

In 2007 the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada along with the Assembly of First Nations filed a human rights complaint pursuant to the Canadian Human Rights Act [CHRA] alleging Canada discriminates against First Nations children by for consistently underfunding child welfare on reserves. Hearings at the  Canadian Human Rights Tribunal start on February 25, 2013 and will run for an estimated 14 weeks in Ottawa. NationTalk caught up with Dr Blackstock on the run up to the tribunal.
