FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 28, 2007
Hobbema, AB, June 28, 2007. Samson Cree Nation has pledged its support to the intent and purpose of National Day of Action as outlined by the Assembly of First Nations National Chief Phil Fontaine, a day which is designed to raise awareness and support among the general public and the government for urgent action to address First Nations issues. This is an opportunity for First Nations and Canadians to stand together in support of a better life for First Nations citizens and a stronger, harmonious Canada. The Treaty Chiefs of Alberta are taking this occasion to educate and inform the Canadian public on the true spirit and intent of the Crown Treaties that the Queen of England and the Treaty Nations made over 125 years ago. In this regard, a Peace and Information Sharing March is being organized for Friday, June 29, 2007, in downtown Edmonton, which will start 11AM at the Baccarat Casino and end at the Edmonton Queen Riverboat landing.
Samson Cree Nation Chief Victor Buffalo is calling on members to support the peaceful demonstration that is planned for our Treaty areas. “I do not and will not condone any violent acts by Natives and non-Natives alike. This is an opportunity to gather support for further action to improve the quality of life for all First Nations,” stated Chief Buffalo.
Samson Cree Nation is a part of the four bands of Hobbema, Alberta, which is in the Treaty No. 6 territory located an hour southeast of Edmonton on Hwy 2 and Secondary Hwy 611 East.
