YELLOWKNIFE (November 28, 2012) Over 120 participants came together to talk about energy at the 2012 Northwest Territories Energy Charrette. This three-day event was a collaborative process to outline how to meet the territory’s future energy needs and provide input on the development of the 2013 NWT Energy Plan.
Representatives from Aboriginal and community governments, businesses, energy experts, non-governmental organizations and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) engaged in energy-related discussions. Topics included what Devolution could mean to energy planning, energy supply options and identifying objectives that could be included in an NWT Energy Plan.
Premier Bob McLeod, Chair of the Ministerial Energy Coordinating Committee, opened the Charrette on behalf of the GNWT. “I commend the Charrette working group on applying this collaborative planning approach to energy development in the NWT. Working together and hearing how experts in the energy field have addressed their challenges and embraced opportunities will help us chart a course for the future of energy in our territory.”
