Featured Pick of the Day: How to use First Nations Art to engage Aboriginal youth

First Nations Culture, tradition, teachings. This video is done by Kloshenem, which is the Chinook word for “honour”. Honour our Voice is our current project. This video shows digital photography done by Aboriginal youth, creative movement, First nations dance (friendship dance as seen at many Pow Wows), visual art and mask making. This culminated in a performance in July 2012, watch for the video in the very near future.

Kloshe’nem is an Aboriginal focused cultural, artistic and literacy program led by professional Aboriginal artists and educators designed to empower communities and students by exposing them to hands on activities featuring First Nations artforms and protocol. Kloshe’nem addresses many creative and cultural modalities.
Our artists are on the ArtStarts roster, work as artists in residence in schools, offer professional development workshops, develop youth camps for Non for profit organizations such as Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA), Richmond Youth Service Agency (RYSA), Pathways Richmond, St. George’s summer camp and have worked with youth from Musqueam, Squamish Nation, the Haida nation and Tseil Watuth nation. All have been trained at Learning though the Arts (Royal Conservatory) and are sought after art educators.
