On Saturday December 21 indigenous activists and allies gathered under the banner of the Idle No More movement at Dundas Square in downtown Toronto and took over the intersection with a flash mob round dance. Celebrating the 1 year anniversary of a similar action the activists then proceeded inside the Eaton Centre shopping mall taking over the central water fountain area. Participants joined hands and danced while three floors of shoppers looked on. The Idle No More movement was started by four young indigenous women a year ago and were recently ranked among the top 100 global thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine. It has since spread to countries around the world and is part of a world-wide resurgence of indigenous resistance and activism.
