First Nation Children and Youth Honour Residential School Survivors
For Immediate Release: April 23, 2013
(Saskatoon, SK) On behalf of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) Executive, Vice Chief Edward Dutch Lerat is pleased to announce the release of the Journey to Truth booklet. The booklet is a compilation of short stories, poems, and drawings from First Nation children and youth that honours the survivors of Indian Residential Schools.
“I want to thank all the children and youth who contributed to this project,” says FSIN Vice Chief Edward Dutch Lerat. “The focus of the project is to have our youth honour all those who experienced life in the residential schools. The era of silence is now over. It is our hope that this publication will be a part of the healing process.”
The FSIN Indian Residential School Unit created the book to improve and enhance the relationships between residential school survivors and the intergenerational children and youth who feel the impacts of the residential school system.
The FSIN represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan. The Federation is committed to honouring the spirit and intent of Treaty, as well as the promotion, protection and implementation of the Treaty promises that were made more than a century ago.
