Free red scarves drape Six Nations war memorials for World AIDS Day – Grand River Sachem

Initiative is part of health services campaign for Aboriginal AIDS Awareness Week

It is a space dedicated to quiet reflection and remembrance of those who have fallen fighting for the greater good.

Shrieks of laughter and friendly chatter filled Six Nations Veterans Memorial Park, which was draped with red scarves Nov. 29 to support World Aids Day and promote Aboriginal Aids Awareness Week, Dec. 1 to 6.

Elders and health services staff from the community knitted and crocheted 175 items as part of Red Scarf campaign, which offers free scarves to everyone.

The campaign, in partnership with Six Nations Health Services, Ohsweken Public Health Office and the AIDS Network of Hamilton, Halton, Haldimand, Norfolk and Brant, is to increase awareness of HIV/AIDS.
