The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) is the latest voice calling for the Harper Government to split up its massive budget implementation bill.
Bobby Cameron, Vice Chief of the FSIN said, as it stands right now bill C-38 infringes on treaty rights and does not involve a consultation process with first nations.
“This bill will have implications to First Nation’s treaty rights to hunt, fish, trap and gather,” said Cameron.
“Most Canadians would be up in arms if the government attempted to diminish their constitutional and legal right, yet it seems common practice for both the federal and provincial government to deny the First Nations the right they have won in the courts,” he said.
