Glashan Public School Opening Doors A Symposium on Student Wellbeing and Mental Health

The Keynote speaker is nationally recognized Indigenous Leader, Gabrielle Fayant. The symposium will feature eight breakout sessions on topics connected to student wellbeing and mental health. Rideauwood, Youthnet, the ROH, CHEO, CMHA, and Ottawa Public Health representatives will deliver interactive presentations dealing with issues as diverse as mental illness, stigma, healthy eating, coping with stress, and building resiliency.
Grade eight students will hear firsthand the importance of balancing different aspects of their lives and understanding the signs of potential mental health issues. Principal Jim Tayler says “Our symposium is a collaborative effort between the school and community organizations that support student wellbeing and mental health. Our purpose is to ensure students know that support is available and reaching out for help is a sign of strength.”
Keynote speaker Gabrielle Fayant will speak on how finding services for Indigenous youth can be challenging. She will also delve into how traditional knowledge and community have helped her live a more genuine life. Ms. Fayant will deliver a message of hope and encourage Indigenous students to be each others allies.
Glashan’s symposium is designed to open doors to conversation, knowledge and support.
