Government to shut down popular, independent health advice website

OTTAWA — The federal Conservative government is axing a popular, bilingual and user-friendly website that provides citizens and medical professionals with reliable, non-commercial information on how to stay healthy and prevent injury and disease.
The decision, quietly relayed to website partners earlier this month, means the Canadian Health Network will shut down at the end of March. This will allow the Public Health Agency of Canada to cut $7 million of the $16.7 million it was ordered to cut from its grants to outside groups in the coming fiscal year.
