When complete, a new hotel and conference centre on the grounds of the Dakota Dunes Casino is expected to create up to 150 jobs in the community.
Touted as an example of collaboration between the federal government, the private sector and Whitecap Dakota First Nation, the Dakota Dunes hotel project, valued at $38 million, will have 155 rooms, a fitness centre, a business centre and a restaurant, all featuring Indigenous themes and decor.
The federal government contributed $8.6 million to the project through its Community Opportunity Readiness Program.
In a statement, Chief Darcy Bear said the hotel is an integral part of a vision that will see Whitecap Dakota First Nation become a top destination resort in Western Canada.
