Groundbreaking Gemini Award-Nominated Series Moccasin Flats Returns to APTN With Movie of the Week, Moccasin Flats: Redemption
TORONTO, ONTARIO–(April 23, 2008) – Moccasin Flats, the groundbreaking acclaimed dramatic series that brought the daily struggles of life in an urban Native ghetto of Regina to the small screen, will once again return with a movie of the week titled, Moccasin Flats: Redemption, announced Laura Milliken, the show’s creator and executive producer.Moccasin Flats: Redemption will air on Sunday, May 18, 2008 on APTN at 10 p.m., and will re-air at midnight. The movie will be aired on both APTN’s HD and SD channels.
“We made this movie to not only bring closure to the series’ main characters that viewers have grown close to over the past three years, but to also show that in an area that is plagued with so many social issues and where so many things can go wrong, there is always the opportunity for hope, healing and redemption,” said Milliken.
Moccasin Flats: Redemption revisits the series main character Red (Ron Harris), an ex-junkie who, after doing time for a crime he says he didn’t commit, returns to the pressure cooker that is The Flats, a community hotly debated as being Canada’s Worst Neighbourhood, only to find himself in the midst of gang activity brewing on the verge of an all-out war. Red must try and reconcile with his horrific past with the help of a homeless child, his ex-girlfriend, a halfway house counselor and a quiet elder while struggling to remain sober and on the right path in life.
Moccasin Flats: Redemption features Canadian actors Candace Fox (Candy Foster), Ron Harris (Red), Danna Henderson (Danna), Tiio Horn (Angel) and Stuart Pierre (Carson). The movie is directed by Gemini award-winner Rob King (Incredible Story Studio, Something More) and was written by Laura Milliken and Rob King.
The dramatic series Moccasin Flats, was originally created by Laura Milliken and Jennifer Podemskiand debuted in 2003 on APTN and Showcase. The series went on to receive both critical and industry acclaim for its groundbreaking and realistic look at the lives and struggles of Aboriginal people living in an urban Native ghetto in Regina, Saskatchewan.
