Halifax March for Science set for Saturday – The Chronicle Herald

A deputy mayor, an astrophysicist, a First Nation chief, and a high school student.

This diverse group are among the people planning to speak up for science Saturday at a rally on the Grand Parade in Halifax, says Tim Allenby, 22, a filmmaker who is organizing the event.

“We need to make it clear, as citizens, as anyone who is worried about the future — not just future generations but our own future as well — that we are actually listening to the people who know what they’re talking about,” Allenby said Thursday.

“We have this huge consensus of scientists telling us that the way things are going cannot continue. For example, reliance on fossil fuels, emissions-heavy transportation, and (unhealthy) food production. But governments at every level, including international, are not acting properly on it.
