Halifax Regional Municipality: Canada 150 – Celebrate Together

Thursday, May 25, 2017 (Halifax, N.S.) – Mayor Mike Savage, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage and members of Regional Council are inviting residents to join in Canada 150 celebrations on July 1, 2017.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Canada and as part of a massive, countrywide Canada Day celebration, the Halifax Regional Municipality will be hosting a series of free events and interactive celebrations at multiple sites in Halifax and Dartmouth.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate everything that makes Canada one of the world’s great countries,” said Mayor Mike Savage. “Together, we will recognize the contributions of many people of diverse backgrounds who have been part of Canada’s story and continue to contribute to the life and culture of this country.”

Canada 150 celebrations will include a free outdoor concert at the Halifax Common, starting in the afternoon and culminating in an evening fireworks show.

“In this momentous Canada 150 year, Canada Day celebrations will highlight what makes our country so unique, diverse and vibrant. I invite all people of Halifax to participate in the activities taking place on July 1. Take advantage of this unique opportunity to celebrate this important milestone with your family, friends and neighbours,” said the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage.

The municipality is excited that Deadmau5 will perform on the Main Stage with the infamous CUBE 2.1 making its first appearance in Canada featuring the most revolutionary stage design the municipality has ever seen.  Local favourite Matt Mays will perform his classic hits and music from his new album.  Neptune Theatre will present a tribute to Stan Rogers, Poet Laureate Rebecca Thomas will perform, and Celtic band Ashelin, Francophone Rockers Izabelle Ouellet, and Reeny Smith from North Preston will also be on the main stage.

The Emera Oval will host the FUSE festival and will feature over 175 artists representing cultures from all over the world including Mi’kmaw, African, Iranian, and Latin artists.

The July 1 celebrations have been made possible by funding from the Government of Canada. The municipality received $400,000 through the Canada 150 Fund for this enhanced event.

Details regarding parking, transit and other municipal program and service level adjustments will be announced prior to Canada Day, Saturday, July 1.

Le jeudi 25 mai 2017, Halifax (N.É.) – Le Maire Mike Savage, l’honorable Mélanie Joly, ministre du Patrimoine canadien et les membres du conseil municipal invitent les résidents à se joindre aux célébrations du Canada 150 le 1er juillet 2017.

Cette année marque le 150e anniversaire de la fondation du Canada, et dans le cadre d’une célébration massive de la fête du Canada à l’échelle nationale, la municipalité régionale d’Halifax organise une série d’événements gratuits et de célébrations interactives sur plusieurs sites à Halifax et à Dartmouth.

«Il s’agit d’une opportunité incroyable de se rassembler, en tant que communauté, afin de célébrer tous les éléments qui rendent le Canada l’un des plus grands pays du monde,» a déclaré Maire Mike Savage.  «Ensemble, nous reconnaîtrons les contributions de nombreuses personnes de partout dans le monde à la vie et à la culture de ce pays.»

Les célébrations du Canada 150 comprendront un concert gratuit en plein air au Halifax Common, qui commencera dans l’après-midi et qui se terminera par un spectacle de feux d’artifice en soirée.

La municipalité est heureuse d’annoncer que Deadmau5 performera sur la scène principale avec l’infâme CUBE 2.1. Il s’agira de leur première apparition au Canada sur la scène avec la conception scénographique la plus révolutionnaire que la ville d’Halifax n’ait jamais vue. Le favori local Matt Mays interprètera ses anciens succès et sa musique provenant de son nouvel album. Le théâtre de Neptune rendra hommage à Stan Rogers. La poète officielle Rebecca Thomas, le groupe celtique Ashelin, l’artiste francophone Izabelle Ouellet et Reeny Smith de North Preston seront également sur la scène principale.

L’Emera Oval accueillera le festival FUSE et présentera plus de 175 artistes représentant les cultures du monde entier, y compris des artistes Mi’kmaw, africains, iraniens et d’Amérique latine.

Les célébrations du 1er juillet ont été rendus possibles grâce au financement du gouvernement du Canada. La ville d’Halifax a reçu 400 000$ grâce au Fonds Canada 150 pour la réalisation de ces événements.

Les détails concernant le stationnement, le transport en commun et d’autres modifications de services et de programmes municipaux seront annoncés avant la fête du Canada, le samedi 1er juillet.
