‘Have a heart, Mr. Trudeau’: Protesters push for equal education for indigenous children – Ottawa Sun

Hundreds gathered on Parliament Hill Tuesday to urge the federal government to “move right now” to ensure equity in services for indigenous children.

“All talk, no action,” chanted the crowd of almost 700 children and adults during this year’s “Have a Heart Day,” a rally in support of the need for indigenous children to grow up safe and healthy, and with a good education.

Attendees held up signs with phrases like, “Everyone has a right to an education” and “Have a heart, Mr. Trudeau.”

While Have a Heart Day is not new, its cause is more important now than ever, said Cindy Blackstock, the executive director for the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada, and a well-known indigenous activist.
