The National Hockey League is on its way to the NWT.

The Aboriginal Sports Circle of the NWT confirmed that former NHL player and coach John Chabot will be bringing several locked-out players to Inuvik on Nov. 20. The players’ Northern tour will begin in Yellowknife on Nov. 18.

Aaron Wells, programs manager with the sports circle said the organization was waiting on making the announcement because it was a busy time for the sports circle.

“John contacted us earlier this month and asked us to spearhead it,” he said. “We told him we would wait until after our awards banquet and that’s why we waited until now to make this official.”

The sports circle will be involved in organizing the games and have enlisted the help of the local minor hockey associations in both communities.
