Hydro One is contributing $15,000 to the Naotkamegwanning Northwest Angle Education Authority to fund the construction of a new playground. The grant is part of the company’s new PowerPlay program that benefits children’s outdoor and active play facilities.

The construction of the playground is one of 48 projects to receive funding in the initial round of PowerPlay grants. More than $450,000 will be awarded this winter and Hydro One is accepting applications now for the next round of grants, with a deadline of April 30, 2008.“We are proud to support community efforts to expand safe, healthy play facilities for children in Ontario,” said Laura Formusa, President and CEO, Hydro One. “The PowerPlay program is one of the many ways Hydro One can invest in the well-being of the communities in which we live and work.”

“The community of Naotkamegwanning First Nation will be very pleased to see a new playground for the Baibombeh School, especially the children,” said Chief Warren White. “I am in high spirits and would also like to thank Hydro One for funding the project. Kitchi-Miigwech!”

The PowerPlay program, launched in August 2007, is open to municipalities and registered charities in Hydro One-served communities. The program offers grants up to $25,000. This includes new facilities and renovation of existing facilities that are open and accessible to the community at large. Additional funding may be available where energy efficiency measures are incorporated into the project.

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario’s 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 122,000 km low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario.
