Iacobucci Updates on Truth and Reconciliation Commission
TORONTO, Dec. 8 – As Facilitator for and on behalf of the Assembly of First Nations and the Metis National Council, the Inuit, the Presbyterian, United and Anglican Churches, the involved Catholic entities, the IRS claimants, and the Government of Canada, I want to state that all the parties have been diligently working to resolve as quickly as possible the very complicated issues facing the TRC.In that respect, I am pleased to say that the parties again made substantial progress at our meeting today and expect to have a resolution of the outstanding matters shortly. Having said that, all the parties wish to say openly and sincerely to IRS survivors that, although we have had to conduct these discussions on a confidential basis, it is the interests of survivors that are uppermost in our minds as we try to reach an agreement for moving forward. We all are sensitive to the difficult situations that face survivors and we hope that they will understand that we are guided by their interests and desires to have the few remaining matters resolved as quickly as possible. We thank them for their patience and understanding.
