The budding aboriginal movement dubbed “Idle No More” might be akin to a bad dream for the federal government.

But a non-violent wake-up call that demands increased transparency, collaboration and debate should be considered a bright spot in any democratic nation, especially when that campaign is founded and fuelled by people who too often have had others speaking on their behalf.

The Idle No More movement is difficult to sum up in a few sentences.

This much is known: it was inspired by a discussion held earlier this fall on the government’s omnibus budget legislation Bill C-45 among four Saskatchewan lawyers — both aboriginal and non-aboriginal — namely Nina Wilson, Sylvia McAdam, Jessica Gordon and Sheelah McLean.
