Importance of Cooperation with Indigenous Leaders for Flood Outlet Channel Project –

On Monday of this week, Agassiz MLA and Minister of Indigenous and Northern Relations Eileen Clarke spoke with MLA and Minister of Infrastructure Ron Schuler to announce one of the province’s top priorities, the construction of the flood outlet channels for Lake Manitoba and Lake St. Martin.

Clarke says the province declared its commitment to meaningful and respectful consultation with Indigenous communities who will be affected by this vital climate change mitigation project. She notes they believe in a cooperative, inclusive approach that is respectful and engages all communities that are impacted.

Clarke explains all of these relationships with indigenous communities is fundamental to enhancing and increasing indigenous participation in Manitoba’s economy, as well as critically important to advancing reconciliation through a principled approach.
