An Indigenous rights activist will be laid to rest in Toronto Friday.
Vernon Harper died Saturday surrounded by friends and family at the age of 85.
The Cree elder was known for his work to help organize a cross-Canada trek that raised awareness about broken treaties. It also focused on grievances against the federal government.
He also co-founded the First Nations School of Toronto in 1976, which works to empower its students through strong cultural identity.
