An Aboriginal activist says she fears for the future of students at a Townsville Indigenous school after it was closed down.
Shalom Christian College’s parent body has been in administration since August and teaching ended last week.
Indigenous activist Gracelyn Smallwood says the Government needs to step in to secure the future of the students.
“It’s extremely sad. Governments every time the cattlemen and the farmers or whoever runs into a crisis of drought or floods, the Government’s the first to pull them out with taxpayers’ money,” she said.
“If they’re promoting closing the gap we won’t close the gap at all in the area of health if we don’t have a good quality education.”
