Indigenous Elder passes away at age 77 – Winnipeg Sun

Winnipeg’s First Nations and community leaders are mourning the passing this weekend of an Indigenous Elder who was instrumental in promoting the sacrifices and contributions of Aboriginal veterans.

Joseph Meconse, a Sayisi Dene Elder died Sunday. He was 77.

“Joseph was a great man and a wonderful leader and an educator,” said Bear Clan patrol executive director James Favel. “I had my own experiences with him and I really respected him. It’s a terrible loss to the community. It’s not been a good weekend.”
