A statewide family counselling program, tailored to meet the needs of Indigenous Australians, will be launched in the Hunter today.
The ‘Aboriginal Building Connections’ program will be launched at the Murrook Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Williamtown.
The original Interrelate program has been amended to make it culturally relevant for Aboriginal families experiencing breakdown.
Interrelate’s Director of Services, Jonathan Toussaint, says the service has been running a parenting education program for many years.
“The feedback that we’ve got is, ‘boy, this is great for separated parents, to stop the fight between the two of them and focus on the needs of the kids’,” he said.
