Southern Health-Santé Sud staff win IANE awards

Jobs ranging from food preparation, nursing, facilities management and administration are among those that Indigenous youth can explore through a Southern Health-Santé Sud career program.

Vice-president of human resources for Southern Health René Ouellette and human resources administrative assistant Kayla Tanner recently received awards from the Inter-Provincial Association on Native Employment, Portage la Prairie Chapter for their work in helping youth explore careers in health care through the Aboriginal High School Internship Program.

The awards event was held in partnership with the Portage la Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce.

Ouellette, who accepted the Best Business award, said the program began 10 years ago and was developed by Southern Health’s regional director recruitment and Aboriginal employment Holly Leost. It now involves up to 30 students from Grades 10 to 12 located throughout the health district.
