Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples face unique challenges and opportunities in developing and managing the potential of their communities. Since 1969, CESO (Canadian Executive Service Organization) has worked with Aboriginal communities across Canada to strengthen business skills and capacity to help communities and organizations achieve their short-term and long-term goals related to economic development and governance.

The CESO partnership model enables Aboriginal communities to take a holistic approach to positive change, at a pace they define. We support holistic community development in a step-by-step process, helping to build capacity in a wide range of skills areas. Based on our history of successful programming, CESO is regarded as a trusted source of technical expertise and mentorship.

Our volunteers

CESO’s greatest strength is our team of Volunteer Advisors (VAs), hand-selected executives and senior practitioners with an average of 25 years of industry experience and the desire to respond to the needs of our clients and partners. With each project, we match the skills and expertise offered by Volunteer Advisors with the needs of communities and organizations.

How our partnership model works

Our Partnership Model is a holistic, relationship-based approach to delivering services to a community or organization. CESO Volunteer Advisors, who are experts in their professions, are selected based on their ability to meet a particular client’s needs. Once a client has contacted CESO, a Volunteer Advisor is identified to act as the lead for that client relationship and together they identify and document the client’s needs and define the goals of the partnership. The Lead Volunteer Advisor then develops a detailed multi-year action plan outlining a series of assignments that will involve other Volunteer Advisors as required to respond to specific client needs.

Our service areas

Our experienced Volunteer Advisors can provide high-impact assistance in:

  • Economic development (business support, community economic development)
  • Health planning and management
  • Community planning (housing, public works, land management)
  • Governance (leadership, strategic planning, human resources)
  • Finance and accounting
  • Strategic planning
