Inuit Name Submissions to MMIWG to Register
(June 8, 2017 – Ottawa, ON) The National Inquiry (NI) into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) held it’s first Community Hearing in Whitehorse, Yukon at the end of May to the first of June 2017.
The NI into MMIWG is mandated to examine and report on the systemic causes of all forms of violence against indigenous women and girls in Canada by looking at patterns and underlying factors.
To initiate the Inuit process into gathering names of witnesses (family members/loved ones/survivors) towards the NI into MMIWG in Inuit Nunangat, the MMIWG secretariat encourages individuals to email firstname.lastname@example.org or to call toll-free line at 1-844-348-4119.
In the email or with the call to the MMIWG secretariat, do provide your name, contact information, and location to register. Do include a memory story of your loved one: her dreams, accomplishments, challenges and talents. Then a member of the MMIWG team will contact you to fulfill the forms in affirming your Community Hearing participation.
You can also contact your regional advisory circle member(s) to assist you with the submission of the information.
