Saali, an Inuk singer/ songwriter, was born in Iqaluit, Nunavut in 1975 and lived in Killinik, a community that closed down in 1978. He grew up mostly in Quaqtaq, Quebec a town with a population of 350. This is where he calls home but has been living in Montreal for the past few years. Saali is an edgier folk/ fusion musician, with an alternative shine. He has been described as a lyrical genius in both English and Inuktitut. His alternative folk/ fusion style is accompanied by the cello that brings life to his music and beats that will lift you to your feet. Saali has a soft personality that you will love and a stage presence that opens a window of his life to his audience.
On his last album, his producer was TJ Plenty who was a part of “The Asexuals” back in the early 90’s. The drummer on the album, Julien Blais is currently touring for Coeur De Pirate and was a part of Juno Award winners “The Stills”.
Saali has appeared on stages across the country, including the Quebec and Inuit Pavilion at the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Vancouver, BC, Festival International Nuits D’Afrique, the far north in Iqaluit, NU at the Alianait Arts Festival; and at venues around Quebec and Ontario.
