After spending the first three weeks of his party’s second-and-counting go-round in government ensconced in closed-door strategy sessions as he and his team adjust to their voter-imposed transition from majority to minority status, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will hold a potentially mission-critical meeting with Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer this morning — the first, it’s worth noting, in a series of scheduled tête-à-têtes with his cross-aisle adversaries.

Although there’s no public agenda for today’s meet-up, the Star reports that Scheer has already served notice, via a statement from his senior spokesman to the media, that he intends to push Trudeau to have MPs summoned back to Ottawa as swiftly as possible as “our country is more divided than ever before,” with “families are struggling every month to make ends meet” and “our energy industry … bleeding jobs.”
