Help spread the word about a new NYA program initiative for youth from Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon. Northern Youth in Service (NYIS), will allow youth between the ages 15-30 to design and deliver projects of their choice in their home communities.

There are two ways for youth be a part of NYIS. The first is to fill out this application: https://nya.ca/nyis/apply/

The second is for them to be nominated. If you or someone in your organization knows an individual who could benefit from this program, we encourage you to fill out a nomination form here: https://form.jotform.com/NYA1/nyis-nomination. The deadline for applications and nominations is August 15th.

We are looking for youth who are interested in serving their community, and who are willing to commit the time and effort required for designing, delivering and evaluating a community project in a supported manner. Youth may apply with a specific community project in mind or we can work with them to come up a project idea. If you have an idea for a project your community could benefit from please let us know!

There is a wide range of community projects that can be eligible for support under this new program. The only criteria are that the projects are designed and led by a youth from a northern territory. For example, eligible projects may be short-term or long-term; small, medium or large in scope; and, as long as they are community-based, they can have a territorial or national scope. As well, there is no restriction on the field of interest that projects may fall under; they may be related to health, food, education, arts and culture, environment, etc.

In August, we will select successful applicants and nominees. We will then help each youth to connect with a mentor who will support the delivery of the youth’s community project. In September, we will begin preparing youth for program management, distributing training material and introducing timelines and expectations of the program.

In October, all youth will meet in Ottawa for a week of intensive program management training and project design. From October to February youth will begin putting their community projects in place. Towards the end of February, youth will conduct evaluations and reports for their community projects. Any long-term projects will continue to receive support. More information can be found on our website at: https://nya.ca/nyis/

And dont forget IRC Regional Youth Advisory Group is calling for new members, see details here to apply for RYAG.
