ITK President Mary Simon Congratulates the Prime Minister and Newly Appointed Cabinet Ministers
OTTAWA – August 14, 2007 – Following today’s Cabinet Shuffle, ITK President Mary Simon congratulates Prime Minister Harper and his newly appointed Cabinet Ministers and wishes Jim Prentice and Bev Oda well in their new portfolio(s).
President Simon welcomes Chuck Strahl as Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and adds that the appointment of Chuck Strahl as Minister of DIAND comes at a critical point in the history of Inuit relationships with this Government.
“I look forward to a strong and enduring working dialogue with Minister Strahl,” says Mary Simon. “The Minister has many urgent issues on his/her plate that profoundly affect Inuit. However the Minister will not have to start from scratch. We do have a road map in front of us called “The Inuit Action Plan” that was supported by his predecessor. I will seek an early meeting with the Minister to discuss this plan; to begin a constructive dialogue with him and to agree on our joint priorities for concrete action going forward.”
