Kent Monkman talks Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience, his new exhibition at the Glenbow – Calgary Herald

Renowned Cree artist Kent Monkman is the perfect provocateur to offer an alternative viewpoint to Canada 150. With his new exhibition at the Glenbow, Shame and Prejudice: A Story of Resilience, he tells tough tales drawn from Canadian history. The show, curated by the artist, places Monkman’s paintings, drawings and sculptures alongside historical artifacts to tell the darker side of Canada’s origin story. Monkman dove into the exhibition with Swerve’s Josiah Hughes.

What are you up to today? Oh my gosh. Well, I’m finishing one painting that’s going in an exhibition in Santa Fe at a show with one of my art dealers there in July. I have to finish everything this week because I’m getting on a plane on Friday and going to Paris. I’ve got work in a group show in Paris that opens at Palais de Tokyo on Monday. And then I go to Calgary after Paris. So there’s a lot going on right now. I’m going to be seriously jetlagged.
