KPDSB Overhauls Aboriginal Trustee Policy – 89.5 The Lake FM

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board has overhauled it’s policy for choosing a trustee to represent aboriginal students.

In the past, the school board had developed a very complicated system based on tuition agreements and student numbers.

Now, the public school board has decided to shift the decision making to local treaty organizations.

The board will be asking Treaty #3 and the Nishinabe Aski Nation to select a representative to sit on the school board.

Eric Bortlis from Hudson is the current aboriginal trustee, and is expected to keep the job when the new trustees are sworn in in December.
