One of the works Brott has selected to première at his festival opener is the “Sinfonia Fantasia” by Gregory Borton, a budding 16-year old Métis (Abenaki) composer, writes Leonard Turnevicius.

He may be a speck in the classical music canon, but George Gershwin’s music is money in the bank for concert organizations.

And that’s what the Brott Music Festival is banking on when it opens its 32nd season with an almost all-Gershwin bill on Thursday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the Burlington Performing Arts Centre, 440 Locust St.

So, you’ll hear hits such as “But Not For Me,” “‘S Wonderful,” and “Summertime” with vocalists Chelsea Rus and David Curry, along with Brott and his 50-piece National Academy Orchestra in the “‘Porgy and Bess’ Suite,” “An American in Paris,” and “Rhapsody in Blue,” the latter featuring Richmond Hill-based piano prodigy Raymond Huang, grand prize winner in the 15 to 18 years old category at the Canadian Music Competition 2018.
