On September 20th, 2009, the Lillooet RCMP and searchers located a missing Mount Currie man deceased. Searchers found the man in the Bralorne area, one day into the search after his being reported missing on September 19 at 01:30.The 55 year old man had been last seen by family during a mushroom picking outing on September 18th.
On September 19, 2009 at approximately 01:30 a.m., the Lillooet RCMP received a report of a possible missing person from the Pemberton Search and Rescue Team.
Pemberton SAR stated that they had just received a call of a missing person who was last seen near Bralorne, BC. Lillooet RCMP contacted the complainant who advised that he and a second male had gone out mushrooms picking near Bralorne, BC. The two mushroom pickers had made a plan to meet at Lone Goat Creek if they were separated which happened on September 18, 2009.
The complainant waited at the Lone Goat Creek for the missing person to arrive. Since the missing person did not arrive the complainant began to look for the missing person until 22:30hrs of September 18, 2009. The men had only planned to be gone for the one day so they did not take many supplies. Both men were very familiar with the terrain of the area.
Immediately upon receiving the complaint on September 19th, the Lillooet RCMP activated the Pemberton Search & Rescue Team requesting they attend the last known area of the missing person. RCMP helicopter Air 4 Air Services were made aware in order to be utilized as soon as possible. The Stl’atl’imx Tribal Police were also requested to assist.
The preliminary search effort for the missing person on September 19, 2009 was unsuccessful in locating the Mount Currie resident . The search continued early on September 20, 2009 in the a.m.
On September 20, 2009 the Pemberton Search & Rescue, RCMP Air Services helicopter Air 4, Lillooet RCMP members, family members and local volunteers continued their search for the missing person.
At 2:30 p.m. on September 20, 2009 the missing person was found deceased. A Doctor who was part of the Pemberton Search & Rescue team assisted the Lillooet RCMP members to examine the man who was pronounced deceased where he was found.
The Lillooet RCMP are continuing to assist the BC Coroners Service in this matter, which at this time does not indicate foul play involvement.
The RCMP conveys it’s deepest condolences and sincerest sympathies to the family of the deceased. The deceased man was a 55 years old and a member of the Mount Currie First Nation community which is located near Pemberton, BC.
