Purpose: The purpose of the work –is a collaborative project between Boehringer Ingelheim and Bimaadzwin to establish and undertake— an Indigenous National Roundtable with a focus on two primary areas of research:
1. Incidence of Diabetes in Indigenous Communities in Canada
2. Incidence of COPD in Indigenous communities in Canada
The project is a non-drug related project that takes a consultative interactive approach to gauge the needs, perceptions, practices of key stakeholders through round-table discussions.
The outcomes of which could attract funding to implement proposed pilot project (s). To co-create solutions with Indigenous communities.
Background/Rationale:
This virtual Session is a part of an ongoing national dialogue and think tank process exploring the impacts of Diabetes and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in First Nations communities for the express purpose of identifying opportunities to support communities. The webinar is being sent by invitation only, and all information shared will be held confidentially, by Bimaadzwin (www.bimaadzwin.ca). All data collected will be treated with dignity, adhering to the principles of OCAP©; all names and identifying information will be removed.
The engagement results will be summarized and key ideas will be shared back with participants. Data will inform actions and be shared with Indigenous communities across Canada.
The key output will be the development of an Indigenous Health Policy Framework (criteria/guidelines) for collaborative, co-created partnerships and subsequent pilot project(s) identification and implementation: to improve the lives of Indigenous peoples in Canada looking beyond the pill.
