All four Team Alberta volleyball teams medaled at the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Toronto July 16-23.
Three of the provincial teams (U16 girls, U19 boys and U19 girls) were compiled of athletes and coaches from Grande Prairie and the Peace Country. The teams trained in GP before the NAIG.
It’s the first time Grande Prairie sent three volleyball teams as Team Alberta reps to the Games.
The U16 and U19 girls teams both won gold and the U19 male team captured silver at the Games.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the kids. All the games were good strong games where the kids had to fight,” said Shannon Dunfield, mission staff and manager for the three teams.
