Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) Message from the President Sept. 17, 2007
Message from the President Sept. 17, 2007
The Manitoba Metis Federation (MMF) 39th Annual General Assembly held in Winnipeg this past weekend was a success in every way. The Manitoba Metis have again showed the strength of our democratic self-governance structures and the integral part the assembly plays in our accountability processes.
Again, I want to thank all the delegates from across our province for their careful review of the work we had accomplished over the year and for providing us guidance and offering us direction for the coming year. Based on the questions, comments, and resolutions passed this weekend, it was clear that together we are moving in the right direction.I also want to thank all our elected MMF portfolio ministers for the hard work they have undertaken in advancing our Metis interests, protecting our Metis rights, and meeting the goals and aspirations of the Metis People. Our Ministers are dedicated to taking those important steps to negotiate, design and deliver the programs and services necessary for the benefit of our children and our future.
I will take this opportunity to again congratulate our students who received scholarships and bursaries in a special ceremony during the assembly. They are role models for our youth. We are proud of their accomplishments and we are pleased to be able to assist them in making their dreams a reality. Special thanks to Minister Vic Toews for his assistance in the ceremony and to all federal and provincial Ministers, including Premier Doer, who attended the assembly.
We must always remember the hard work of our staff, the volunteers, and the entertainers who helped make the Annual General Assembly a success. It is they who have put in many late nights working, practicing, and planning to ensure they are giving 110% to the people. Without them there could not have been an assembly.
We will all need to roll up our sleeves and together tackle the challenges we face. It will be an interesting and challenging year. Together we will overcome the obstacles in our way as we strengthen our Metis Government and build our Metis Nation. Thank you all for doing what you can do to help our families, our community, and our Nation.
I offer my prayers and condolences for all our people who have recently lost family, friends, and neighbours. Please pray for the good health of those who are sick or shut-in. I ask that you be sure to give each other a hug.
Believe in Yourself – Believe in Metis!
