Manitoba Metis Federation Statement on the Cormier Trial Finding

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fontaine family tonight. Words cannot begin to express the pain and confusion they must be feeling as a result of this verdict. The outcome of the trial brings additional hurt and confusion, and the need for more answers from the justice system.

We join our First Nations brothers and sisters in calling on the justice system to reflect on and review their decision and strategy, which has failed yet another child. As a Nation we must do better for all of our children. Let these recent events be a wake-up call to us all. Change is needed, now more than ever. Tonight we mourn, and tomorrow we must begin the change.
