Marathon – Awareness-building Campaign on First Nations Education
Marathon
September 19, 2007
Ottawa
As you are already aware, the FNEC has held a number of activities in recent weeks intended to make the population aware of the issues that are facing us.
Firstly, the FNEC is intending to hold a 3km. marathon in Ottawa on September 19, 2007. We are currently looking for willing participants. The marathon, which will take approximately one hour, will finish on Parliament Hill. We would like communities who wish to sign up to do so for at least 10 runners aged between 7 and 25. The FNEC will pay a fixed amount of $500 to each community for transportation, meals and accommodation where necessary. A short plan to help you get fit will be given to each participant at a videoconference explaining in detail how the day will be organized.Furthermore, we would like to have some people to greet the runners on Parliament Hill. We invite communities to organise buses to this effect.
We are relying heavily on you to get a team together in your community. To date we have received a great deal of support and visibility with the civil society and the government. It is very important that we don’t start to run out of steam now and so we must continue to make the population aware of our issues by organizing and taking part in events like this.
To this effect, you will find enclosed the registration form that should be returned to us as soon as possible.
Thank you for your collaboration.
