There were two new fires confirmed in the Northwest Region by the afternoon of Wednesday, May 9. Red Lake Fire number 12, located just west of North Spirit Lake First Nation is 5.5 hectares in size. Red Lake Fire number 13, at 0.2 hectares, is located near Pikangikum First Nation

There was eight new fire starts in the Red Lake and Kenora Districts over Tuesday, May 8.

The forest fire hazard is high in the Kenora and Red Lake Districts. The remainder of the region is under a low to moderate forest fire hazard.

Performing yard clean-up?

Consider chipping or composting brush or grass before burning. If you must burn, make sure you know the rules and follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations to ensure you burn grass and woody debris safely.
