OTTAWA, April 1 – FCM President and Winnipeg Councillor, Gord Steeves, will meet news media to discuss the impact of the last federal budget on affordable housing, and express municipal expectations and priorities in advance of the meeting of the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers responsible for housing to be held April 2 in Ottawa. President Steeves will be joined at the news conference by Brenda Hogg, Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor of Richmond Hill, Ont., and Chair of FCM’s Standing Committee on Social Economic Development.
On January 16, FCM published a Quality of Life report entitled Trends & Issues in Affordable Housing & Homelessness which indicated affordable housing is still scarce in Canadian cities(http://www.fcm.ca/english/media/backgrounders/qol2008.pdf).
The report was followed up a week later (January 23) with a call for National action to end homelessness and deliver affordable housing. The report is available on the FCM website at http://www.fcm.ca/english/qol/qol2008.pdf.
