Media Advisory: Junior Canadian Rangers Celebrate 10 Years
Ottawa, Ontario –(Dec. 1, 2008) – The Chief Reserves and Cadets (C Res & Cdts), Maj.-Gen. Dennis Tabbernor, will preside over a ceremony commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Junior Canadian Rangers (JCR) Programme. Members of the JCR, youth between the ages of 12 and 18, will be on hand to demonstrate the skills they have learned and to explain the use of equipment. The Honourable Senators Charlie Watt and Willie Adams will be in attendance.In a dynamic and learning partnership, the JCR Programme strives to strengthen remote and isolated Canadian communities through an altruistic, responsible and practical youth programme that embraces culture and tradition, promotes healthy living and positive self-image, and reflects the proud military legacy of the Canadian Rangers. There are approximately 3,400 Junior Canadian Rangers in 116 remote and isolated communities across Canada. Many of these youth are Aboriginal and speak a language other than English or French.
