Why: Being held for the first time in North America, IALI 2007 is co-hosted by IALI, the Ontario Ministry of Labour (MOL) and IAPA in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO), the Government of Canada and the WSIB (Workplace Health and Safety Board). The two conferences are sharing a joint opening session during IAPA's 90th annual Health & Safety Canada 2007, the largest health and safety show in Canada. 8:00 a.m. Joint IAPA Conference Celebration and IALI Conference Opening

– Performance by Kaha:wi Dancers
– Keynote by Stephen Lewis, Veteran diplomat and humanitarian entitled “Where in the World is the World Headed?”
– Maureen Shaw, President & CEO, IAPA (Industrial Accident Prevention Association)
– Honourable Steven Mahoney, Chair, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
9:20 a.m. Talking Stick Ceremony In Aboriginal tradition, the holder of the Talking Stick makes important announcements, while the others in the group listen. At Wednesday’s joint session, the Talking Stick, carved by Harvey Williams of the Nuu-cha-nulth Nation of the Pacific Northwest Coast Natives, will be passed from IAPA to IALI to signify the transfer and exchange of knowledge for the benefit of workers around the world.
9:30 a.m. IALI conference delegates proceed to North Building of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre led by a Scottish bag piper.
9:45 a.m. MOCK TRIAL
