Media Alert – CMA seeks Northern Perspective on Health

Ottawa, March 15, 2012 – The Canadian Medical Association will hear firsthand about the health care challenges in Canada’s North at a public town hall in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut, on March 19. This meeting is another in the CMA’s National Dialogue with Canadians, which is part of the ongoing effort to transform Canada’s health care system.

Date: Monday, March 19, 2012Time: 6 pm to 8 pm (MDT)

Location: Arctic Islands Lodge, Northwest Passage Room

The Hon. Leona Aglukkaq, Minister of Health and the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency and Nunavut Minister of Health and Social Services Keith Peterson will be in attendance.

This town hall is a stop on a tour of Nunavut by CMA President Dr. John Haggie and President-elect Dr. Anna Reid. The two physicians will meet with various community leaders and health professionals in Cambridge Bay and Iqaluit. “We are really looking forward to this visit,” Dr. Haggie said. “Nunavut residents face enormous challenges in trying to be healthy and their views will help direct us in our efforts to create a health care system that truly serves all Canadians.”
