The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the economic growth of First Nations communities through investments that create jobs and promote prosperity.

Today, MP TJ Harvey, on behalf of the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Minister of Indigenous Services, visited Tobique First Nation and toured the site where the community is renovating and expanding the Maliseet Gas Bar and Convenience Store.

Once complete, the expansion will offer customers an enhanced location, additional shopping options and convenient services while creating additional employment opportunities both during the construction and beyond.

Funding in support of this project was provided through the Community Opportunity Readiness Program (CORP) of Indigenous Services Canada, which provides project-based funding to First Nations and Inuit communities for a range of activities such as feasibility studies and business plans, establishment of community-owned businesses, and economic infrastructure development.
