(Vancouver, B.C.) – The Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) is very proud to announce that on Saturday, May 12, 2007, the Métis Skills and Employment Centre (MSEC) located in Abbotsford B.C. will be celebrating its first year anniversary.MSEC held four intakes of the Construction Orientation Retention to Employment (CORE) six-week training program over the last year. MSEC has trained over 40 individuals to work in the construction industry, and with this success came recognition from the Industry Trades Authority (ITA). The ITA has designated MSEC as a recognized trades training delivery site in British Columbia, thus expanding resources for its clients across the province, and allowing the Métis to address the overwhelming labour shortage in B.C.

“It has been a very exciting year of growth and success,” stated Director of Employment and Training, Malonie Langthorne. “We have been able to provide industry-recognized training that has led to employment for our students.”

MSEC will be expanding and courses in trades this year will include:
• 1st Year Carpentry – 6 weeks
• 2nd Year Carpentry – 6 weeks
• Interior Systems Mechanic – 6 weeks

MSEC will be opening another campus site in mid-2007 in New Westminster BC. The campus will offer:
• Diploma in Human Resources Management (6 months full time)
• Certificate in Hospitality Management (12 weeks)

The Métis Skills and Employment Centre is a Private Career Training Institution Agency (PCTIA) recognized
training centre, and ITA designated trades training Centre.

The MNBC and staff at the Métis Skills and Employment Centre wish all of our students success in their future employment endeavours. Thank you to our partners, VanAsep, Sto:lo Nation and Service Canada for their collaboration and support.
