Minister Strahl Announces Appointment of Patrick Bobinski to Sahtu Renewable Resource Board
Ottawa (April 16, 2008) -The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, announced today the appointment of Patrick Bobinski as member of the Sahtu Renewable Resources Board.“Mr. Bobinski has extensive experience in the renewable resources sector – he worked for Fisheries and Oceans Canada for over 30 years,” Minister Strahl said. “He will be a great asset to the Board and I look forward to his future contributions as a member.”
The Sahtu Renewable Resources Board is the main instrument of wildlife management in the Sahtu settlement area. The Board establishes policies and proposes regulations for the personal and commercial harvesting of wildlife. The Board approves plans for the management and protection of wildlife, the designation of conservation areas and endangered species, as well as interim management guidelines and park management plans and regulations proposed by government. It establishes rules and procedures for consultation and reviews any matter affecting wildlife referred to it by government.
The Board was established under the Sahtu Dene and Metis Comprehensive Land Claim (1993) and the Sahtu Dene and Métis Settlement Act (1994).
Mr. Bobinski’s appointment is effective immediately, for a period of five years.
