MLA for Kugluktuk resigns from the Legislative Assembly

IQALUIT, Nunavut (March 31, 2020) – Mila Kamingoak, Member of the Legislative Assembly for Kugluktuk, has declared her decision to resign her seat as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, effective April 3, 2020.

Pursuant to the Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, Ms. Kamingoak formally informed the Speaker of her decision by way of correspondence. Section 38 of the Nunavut Elections Act provides that a by-election must be held “as soon as reasonably practicable and not later than six months after a seat becomes vacant.”

Speaker Quassa said, “On behalf of all Members of the Legislative Assembly, I thank Ms. Kamingoak for her service and wish her well as she focuses on the needs of her young family. I anticipate that the date of the by-election will be announced shortly.”
