MMIWG: International Day of the Girl Child

October 11th is the International Day of the Girl Child, and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls invites you to recognize the day and the girls in your community.

In 2011, the United Nations passed a resolution aimed at recognizing the specific needs and gendered challenges that girls face globally. The International Day of the Girl Child encourages initiatives that challenge the status quo and empower girls and adolescents to reach their potential. This year’s theme is “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”!

Here in Canada, the human rights of girls is central to the work of the National Inquiry. Collectively let’s build a society that ends violence and allows Indigenous women and girls to reclaim their power and place. In honour of all missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, let us commit to work together to ensure the basics rights of Indigenous girls are met, so that all girls can learn, grow and become.

Each and every one of us has a role to play and a shared responsibility. Together we will find the truth, honour the truth and give life to the truth. #MMIWG #dayofthegirl #letscommit
